Slovakia Day 7 – Homemade Halusky and a Slovak Car Show

Being able to see exotic cars in a different culture is something that I never appreciated until today. It is interesting to see the entire different car culture, between Slovakia and America. Read along as I talk about my first car show in another country.

Today I got up, and felt like a total zombie. My head felt like it gained an extra 10 pounds, and my back was all tense. But, I was excited. Why? I would be able to go to a car show and be able to see cars that I would never be able to see in the United States. I know that a lot of you here are going to want to see the cars, but first something very interesting. I got to cook with my host dad, some home made Halusky. It is a very interesting process, and I hope that I can help him cook it again next week so I can have a better idea of what was going on.

Around 5 in the afternoon, My host dad took me to a new friend of mines house, who had first offered to take me to this show. His name is Martin Hrusovsky, and you should definitely go follow him at his Instagram here. Anyway, I met Martin because he is my host parents nephew, so I got to talk to him at one of out family gatherings, where we started talking a bunch about cars.

Anyway, me and Martin walked over to where the car show was being hosted, and boy was I surprised. I was slightly saddened by the sight of all of the ghetto cars on the street, but apparently according to Martin that was pretty normal for Slovakia. I am very new to the car scene, so if I say something that isn’t quite right in car lingo please correct me, but to be too harsh haha.

I don’t know if they didn’t have enough paint for the entire car car or what, but it was still pretty unique

Just going to leave this here, there is a story behind this but I don’t know if it is appropriate for this…

Anyway, that was my experience with a Slovak car show! It was very cool, although we were there for quite a while. I was somewhat surprised on the types of cars that showed up. It was dark, so I couldn’t get any good pictures, but two GTRs showed up, and so did an Audi A8. I was thinking that this would be a little more of a “I just decked out my Honda Civic” kind of car show, but there really were some cool works of art here. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed. I somewhat rushed to get this post out before midnight (currently 11:40), so that is why it isn’t quite as detailed. I will try to sit down earlier tomorrow to write a little more. Dobru noc!

All of these pictures were taken on a Sony A6000. If you are looking for a great light weight camera that takes fantastic pictures, I would definitively recommend this setup here.

Car Shopping

My new favorite pastime is going around neighborhoods and asking people if they would sell their car. I know that I don’t have the money to buy the car, but it is a lot of fun to be able to converse with people about their cars, and lets me pretend that I have the money for it. I went out “shopping” with my friend Chris all day yesterday, and we saw several M3s, a 240 SX, a 66′ Mustang, a few miatas, and probably more that I forgot about. The more I shop, the more I want a car!
